New York Style Steak and Burger “Took some folks there today (12/6/2010). Spent 30 minutes waiting for the useless staff to get their act together to clean a table. We finally left disgusted. Some folks who arrived after us decided to keep waiting and waited a further 15 minutes before leaving and going to Casa 13. Shoddy service! Crap Service! Still want to try the burgers... but not when the service is so bad! ”

Di Shui Dong “Typical Hunan food. Not bad. Everybody used to rave about it. But I think there are better places to go... service is often not very good either!”

Amokka Café “Finally made it to Amokka Cafe. Coffee was decent (only not filled up all the way - meaning that a medium was more like a small and a large like a medium... wtf!). Burger wasnt bad. Other dishes on the table looked pretty good. Some interesting wanna-be digerati and cute gals with their Macs sitting in various corners up stairs... overall a place to go back to!”

Casa 13 “This place really is hidden. Down a little alley in a lovely house. Nice little courtyard if you wish to sit outside. Inside is nicely done with some romantic corners and interesting wine selection. Dishes looked good - have not tried much yet. Only had coffee and the "white pizza". Coffee needed to be stronger. But the Pizza was nice. The best was the Tiramisu. With an Enjoycard, its free. :-) Staff seemed very friendly. Will definitely be heading back here for more Tiramisu and to try some of the other interesting dishes.”

Lost Heaven Yunnan Folk Cuisine “update: OK! So I Went back with my wife. Ordered some pretty weird dishes - all tasted good! So it wasnt just the alcohol speaking! The food here is a nice change from all the normal Chinese food one eats. Went with some folks from work. Not a bad place. Great interior. Service was acceptable. Food seemed pretty good. I need to go back again and try a few more dishes before I pass any major judgement. Great place to take a date. The dishes I tried were nicely prepared and presented.”

Kampung Kitchen “Reasonable food and many of my favorite dishes. Deserts are good too. Nice environment.”

Vienna Cafe “Just read this blog entry in Shanghailander.net (http://www.hugues-martin.fr/wordpress/?p=945) that made me think of Vienna Cafe. Used to hang out here quite a bit. The brunch is a pretty good deal. Always an interesting crowd. Sitting by the window in one of the corners on a sunny day is bliss. Coffee is good. Papa's Bierstube “Some very satisfying German food. They've just begun making their own home brew - awesome!!! Some of the best beer Ive had in Shanghai! Wit beer beats the socks off anything else in town! The heavy German food goes down ohhh so well with the beer!”

Hot Pot King “Still one of the better Hot Pots in town - if you are a foreigner or Chinese. Its clean. Quality of ingredients is good. Nice selection of sauces. The Beef is good. Price is not too bad. I normally take visitors to Shanghai here! A good first introduction. Then they want seconds and thirds!”

Gourmet Cafe “Went here for a late afternoon burger. Interesting selection of burgers - Ill have to go back a few times to try them all. Quite pleased with the burger. I asked for well-done (prefer medium, but not in Shanghai). Forgot to try the milkshake. But the Coffee was pretty good. I honestly cant remember the name of the burger I had. But it was good! Cheesecake wasnt too bad either. Definitely up there with the best in terms of burgers. A little pricey - 78 RMB for a burger with salad.”
